His story keeps getting better.
Friday night, streetballer Kenny Dobbs known as "The Dunk Inventor" was selected with the eighth pick in Round 8 of the 2012 NBDL Draft by the Texas Legends, an affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks.
Of the 128 players drafted, the 28-year-old Arizona native is the only one who did not attend college. A high school drop out, he overcame a life of alcohol, drugs, and violence to become the worlds best slam dunk artist whose 48-inch vertical has impressed the likes of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
His innovative high flying dunks have made him a YouTube sensation and earned him a sponsor from Nike as well as endorsements from Sprite and Red Bull.
Dobbs has performed in the U.S., Europe, South America, and even Alcatraz.
In September, he judged the dunk contest in the Alcatraz prison yard for Red Bull's King of the Rock. It was the second year in a row he's appeared on the island which was also the site of the Occupation of Alcatraz from 1969-71.
A proud Choctaw, Dobbs works as an ambassador for the Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI) Foundation and is the founder of Up Rise Youth Foundation which aims to educate and motivate young people..
The Legends are based in Frisco, Texas, and they open the 2012-13 season Nov. 23 in Oklahoma against the Tulsa 66ers.
